Caring MR Suite
In November of 2013, Summerville Medical Center introduced GE’s innovative Magnetic Resonance (MR) Patient Experience Suite. The suite aims to ‘humanize’ radiology by softening the clinical look, feel and sound of a traditional MR exam.
The Caring MR Suites reflect GE MR's award-winning themes of its wide bore MR family, and include the ‘caring hands’ design philosophy featuring lighting, interior décor, scenery and music. Patients can choose a theme from 16 artfully selected combinations of mood-lighting, visual scenery, and musical backgrounds before they undergo an MR exam. This gives them control over their environment, and allows them to calm down.
Patients can bring their own iPad and iPod content and select videos, photos, or music from their personal collection to be played during the MR exam. The content can be displayed on the high resolution LED screens placed in the ceiling or as window in the MR suite.
Different patient age groups have different needs. The MR Patient Experience Suite addresses those needs with special moods and themes for pediatric and geriatric patients. To further soften the feel of an MR exam, GE Healthcare teamed up with VisualTherapy’s Joey Fischer, an expert in nature photography who pioneered the use of imagery to help reduce the stress and anxiety of patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic medical procedures.
The w-series also incorporates the GEM Suite of patient-embracing, lightweight radio frequency (RF) coils, designed to adapt to varying patient shapes, and which enables feet-first exams for all anatomies, aimed at reducing patient anxiety.
